The real risk of unofficial WhatsApp channels

There are two ways to connect an AI agent to WhatsApp, and the difference matters more than it seems.
Official and unofficial
- The WhatsApp Business Platform is Meta's official way to connect software to WhatsApp.
- Unofficial channels are tools that automate a regular WhatsApp account or the WhatsApp Business app, bypassing the official platform.
The real risk
Unofficial channels are not allowed under WhatsApp's terms. The most serious risk is the number getting blocked, temporarily or for good, and losing the channel your customers use to reach you.
When they're used
Sometimes an alternative channel makes sense, for example to get started while the official account is being approved. The decision is yours, and it has to be an informed one.
How we handle it
We work with the WhatsApp Business Platform and, when a case requires it, with alternative channels. Before we start, we tell you in writing which one applies and what risk it carries, including the number getting blocked. We never send unsolicited WhatsApp messages.
